About Fairgreen Sod Farms
Fairgreen Sod Farms is owned and operated by Cam Fairty and his family. The family business started on a 350-acre farm in Markham, Ontario between Steeles Avenue and Markham Road. Cam's father, Howard Fairty, moved to the farm from the city when he was 14 years old. He cleared the land and started a dairy and beef cattle operation. After seeing the success of a neighbouring Parkview Golf Course with their sod growing, he decided to give it a try and became one of Ontario's earliest sod growers. Sod takes two years to harvest after planting. It's an extremely labour-intensive process. Sod was cut with a Ryan manual sod cutter. It's then rolled and lifted onto the back of a single-axle truck that holds 8 skids of sod. If equipment and/or staff don't run out of steam, under ideal conditions, one crew can harvest 3,500 rolls of sod per day! Today, Fairgreen Sod Farms uses two Trebro Auto Stack harvesters to cut sod. This state-of-the-art equipment is capable of cutting, rolling, and stacking over 35,000 rolls of sod per day. A fleet of 12 trucks equipped with forklifts then delivers this sod to customers throughout Ontario. We offer delivery for a minimum of 30 rolls. We're also able…
